New June releases!

Jun 08 2010

First on the list are some 28mm Etruscan Heavy Cavalry. This release is comprised of three packs, including a command pack, for a total of nine poses. The cavalry comes with a choice of shield variants.

Components have been made available separately with more shields and standards added to the webcart. Additionally, horses from this cavalry release are available (three horse variants per pack) for anyone in need of equine reinforcements.

The Etruscan heavy cavalry are dynamic figures and full of character. Like our Etruscan hoplites, the heavy cavalry can also be used as warriors from a variety of Greek city-states of the same era.

Additionally, we have a new 28mm Ancient World offering this month, Heracleides the Syracusan!

A veteran of the long wars with Carthage and decorated officer, Heracleides could no longer tolerate the ruthlessness of the Syracusan Tyrant, Dionysius. Heracleides and a handful of like-minded commanders attempted an ill-fated coup d’etat. Though spared from death, Heracleides was exiled from Sicily, forever forbidden to step again on her shores. He now makes his living as a mercenary and has fought with the Athenians and Illyrians. He longs for the day he can finally return to his beloved city-state.

Held in Lincolnshire, Illinois, Little Wars is a fantastic regional historical gaming convention that continues to grow every year. We will have our entire ranges of Spartans, Etruscans and Ancient World character models available as well as a sneak peek of our upcoming skirmish game – Vox Populi, so stop by the Gorgon booth and meet the staff.

Etruscan Army Lists

Feb 18 2010

The brand new edition of Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy magazine (number 52, February 2010) includes the first installment of Allen Curtis’ ‘Rise of Rome’. This serialized version of his original Warhammer Ancients Battles manuscript will eventually include background and army lists for Etruscans, Samnites, Oscans, Latins, the Hill Tribes, early Carthaginians and Syracusans. Basically, the most important army lists ever! Additionally, Allen, with help from Mark Sims at Crusader, has created parallel army lists for the Crusader rules and Lorenzo Sartori of Dadie & Piombo has supplied lists for Impetus.

The ‘Rise of Rome’ article is also extremely graphics heavy, with lots of photos of Gorgon Studios’ early Etruscans painted by Dave Pauwels. The same issue of WSS also includes another positive review of Gorgon’s Etruscan figure line.

Centurio Valerius of Arretium

Feb 15 2010

Gorgon Studios is proud to reveal its latest ‘Ancients World’ character, Centurio Valerius of Arretium. Sculpted by Steve Saleh, Valerius is the latest in Gorgon’s line of ancient personalities.

Valerius is something of a celebrity in the Etruscan city-state of Arretium. Renown throughout the League as a resourceful commander with “balls of bronze”, one tale in particular illustrates his cunning. In the summer of 424 BC, Valerius led his men on a raid into the Po River valley. To sow discord amongst the Gallic tribes, he and his troops would steal livestock and then plant the animals in the villages of neighboring tribes. Nearly a dozen inter-tribal conflicts were instigated in this manner, with Valerius and his Etruscans always ready to assist the “wounded” party. Co-released with Ancient Warfare magazine.

Gorgon Studios Spartan Army and Skirmisher Painting Guide

Dec 21 2009

The warriors of Sparta gather for war! Gorgon Studio staff painter Jamie Welling has begun work on the Gorgon Studios Spartan Army, which we plan to let you, our customers, use on the field of battle in demo games at future trade shows. This month we offer some pictures of the first skirmisher packs to make it into the force. Stay tuned for updates in the next few months as the Studio Army continues to grow.

New Ancient World Chieftain and Early Pila

Nov 24 2009

Gorgon Studios adds a new character to its range of Ancient World range this month with Varmarix, a grizzled veteran of countless wars whose longevity has as much to do with his wits as his martial prowess. Varmarix will make a great commander for a Gallic or Celtic warband; an ally of Hannibal or an enemy of Caesar.

Additionally, we are happy to offer packs of Early Pila (20 weapons per pack). These are perfect for Republican Romans and later Etruscans. As a side, did you know that many modern scholars believe the pilum was invented, not by the hill dwellers of the Tiber themselves, but by their Etruscan neighbors?

Both Varmarix and the Early Pila were sculpted by Steve Saleh.

I, Gorgon

Nov 04 2009

Gorgon Studios is proud to reveal its latest ‘Ancients World’ character, Claudius. Sculpted by Steve Saleh, Claudius is the latest in Gorgon’s line of ancient personalities.

Kept from political life and the machinations of the Roman Senate until his consulship, Claudius wasn’t considered much of a threat by any would-be enemies or opponents. Claudius may be half-witted, but he has survived Caligula’s reign of terror, outlasting many who had died with all of their wits intact. And, eventually, with the help of the Praetorian Guard he finds himself Emperor of Rome.

Early Etruscan Hoplites in 28mm by Steve Saleh

Aug 11 2009

The serpent-coiffed staff of Gorgon Studios is extremely excited to finally have some preview shots of our new historical 28mm range. We present to you our first group of early Etruscan hoplites, sculpted by Steve Saleh. These are the first sculpts of Gorgon’s early Etruscan range and should be available, along with a second group of hoplites and command, shortly. As we write, the rest of the “first wave” of six packs is traveling to the Gorgon foundry.

These models represent the pride of Etruria. They are the Etruscan citizen hoplites and muster from the city-states of Veii and Clusium. These troops form the backbone of Lars Porsenna’s army that would eventually capture Rome herself!

Alternatively, the beauty of these figures is their supreme flexibility. Because the Etruscans styled their heavy infantry on their contemporary Greek counterparts, these hoplites can be used for almost any classical army, from Syracusan heavy troops to First Punic War hoplite mercenaries.

Promotional Figure Revealed…

Jul 08 2009

To celebrate the re-release of the Spartan and Ancient World lines, Gorgon Studios is offering a promotional figure for orders over $30 USD (online orders only). This is a limited time offer and supplies are limited.

Gorgon Studios is happy to reveal its first web order promotional model, an early Achaemenid Persian infantryman. Sculpted by Steve Saleh, this figure represents the typical foot soldier in the million-strong army of the god-king, Xerxes, or the hordes of his father, Darius. From the pass at Thermopylae to the beaches at the Bay of Marathon, the Persian soldier was a small cog in a vast machine of war. Hopefully this won’t be the last you see from us concerning the Persian Empire….

This is Sparta!

Jun 22 2009

This week sees the re-release of Steve Saleh’s early (circa 480 BC) Spartan 28mm miniatures. Previously available from Artizan Designs, the range is now offered by Gorgon Studios. ‘At the Hot Gates’ is an extensive collection of early Spartan warriors appropriately equipped for the legendary battles against the Persian Empire. From linothorax armored hoplites to lowly helot skirmishers, the range provides enough variety and options to recreate one of the most feared and celebrated armies ever to take the field.

‘At the Hot Gates’ includes a number of command figures, including the great king Leonidas, musicians and officers. The range is now packaged in groups of four figures for flexibility and is appropriate for any 25/28mm system – including Warhammer Ancients Battles, Fields of Glory, Impetus and DBA.

Gorgon Studios is proud to offer Steve Saleh’s excellent line. We knew these models would return, either with their shields or on them…

Gorgon Studios Launches!

May 14 2009

Gorgon Studios, a cabal of veteran hobbyists, game designers/writers and miniatures painters is proud to officially launch its website and announce its partnership with world-renowned miniatures sculptor, Steve Saleh.

‘Temperance’

Gorgon is happy to make its first Collector’s range model available. We are proud to introduce “Temperance”, a 40mm post-Apocalyptic she-devil. Sculpted by Steve Saleh, this multi-part figure heralds Gorgon’s eclectic Collector’s range. Walking directly from the blighted and nightmarish wastelands of the dark future, Temperance makes a formidable addition for the collector, painter or wargamer.

‘At the Hot Gates’

Over the next few months, Gorgon Miniatures plans to release its first two ranges of 28mm historical miniatures. First off, will be the re-release of Steve Saleh’s excellent range of early Spartans, as a forerunner to a comprehensive treatment of the Classical era. Keep checking the website for availability, updates and previews of forthcoming figures.

Concurrently, Gorgon Publishing is working on both miniatures rules and some exciting RPG material. Stay tuned! The next few months will see lots of surprises. Again, all details of our products will be announced first on our website. Keep checking for updates.
